STORY OVERVIEW:

Father’s Pyre & Sligo enter the Tomb of the Dancing Prince after 6 souls had been sacrificed. The mess in the tomb is ungodly, as all of the victims excreted their skeletons out of their bodies. At the same time back on the Island, Father’s Howt & Amato are performing an exorcism on a comedic demon. After they are done, they go to confession to cleanse their souls, and this is where we discover the temptation of Father Amato. He confesses to an affair of the flesh that resulted in a love child and the mother dying in childbirth. This has affected him greatly, but he has no time to dwell on this as the Dancing Prince statue has made its way to the Island. Now all of the demons have perked up, and danger is on its way.

WRITING:

This issue takes readers on a thrilling journey, blending both gruesome and entertaining elements with surreal and serious events. Jordan Thomas skillfully incorporates comedic moments that are interspersed among the heavier themes, creating a dynamic and engaging reading experience. The story’s ability to balance lightheartedness with gravity stands out as one of its strongest features. The depictions of possessions and their grisly aftermaths provide plenty of horror for fans of the genre, satisfying those seeking unsettling and macabre moments. Meanwhile, the dramatic revelations from Father Amato introduce a weighty and somber tone, deepening the emotional impact of the narrative.

Remarkably, this story successfully navigates multiple genres without faltering. Whether it’s horror, comedy, drama, or surrealism, each is woven together seamlessly, making the issue a well-rounded and memorable read.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this book is characterized by its simplistic style, yet it proves highly effective in conveying the story’s atmosphere. Chris Matthews excels at crafting a horror-filled world that is saturated with gore, while simultaneously maintaining a lighthearted tone. The straightforward art designs and the use of color play a crucial role in making the gruesome elements more palatable for readers. This approach not only softens the impact of the gore but also enhances the ability to depict the story’s more ridiculous and fun aspects.

While the artistic style may not appeal to everyone, it stands out for those seeking a more playful take on horror. Fans in search of something fun and visually engaging will likely find much to enjoy in this book’s artwork.

Final Thoughts:

Exorcism Island #3 is a fun, horror and drama filled ride that covers all the readers bases. The something for everyone nature of the story allows it to reach a broader audience. Nothing is overdone or goes too far, so squeamish readers don’t need to worry about reading this issue.
