Phillips concludes events with a disturbing look at madness overcoming human nature. One character that has been extremely polarizing in this story is Roy. His actions have caused much friction with the other cursed passengers. His misguided looks have huge impacts. The writing establishes his vision while imposing his beliefs of survival. He is one not above reproach as hope becomes more fleeting. Readers watch as one drastic measure starts a domino effect into more questionable strife.
The writing wastes no time in escalating events to dangerous levels. One moment violently harming one of “the crew” proclaims the fragile mental state the survivors find themselves in. This places Via into an uncomfortable situation. Being the “conscience” of the passengers, her actions feel the weight of the collapsing state of affairs surrounding her. It compliments the flashback sequences featured on the journey. Seeing a more personal one with her family play out only makes matters more heartbreaking as the days pass by. Rational thinking for some becomes replaced by delusions of a dangerous small society. This throws everything into a chilling final stage. Phillips brings the drama to an explosive point with an even more stunning close. Expect more reflection on what transpired within these pages.

Laming and Loughridge cover much ground with the visual takes for this finale. The flashback sequences run a gauntlet of emotions. Readers get more depth into the overall bleakness at hand. There’s also a great sequence involving a more relatable time with the Wright family. They serve as a solid pace setter for the descent into instability surrounding one lead in particular. Each move he does, the art camouflages his true intentions. Panels give him an enigmatic sense as his actions draw mixed reactions amongst the others.
One act does take the air out of the sails for readers. The half page reactions don’t hold back the impact of the act and decree. The crew’s struggles never steer away from the spotlight from this point on. A sequence involving a fallen member stands out on the pages with the unhinged “talk” taking place. It leads into a more direct conflict with the resistance of losing hope. The final act kicks off with a bold image of a broken soul. As events start causing commotion, readers see the rising tensions combust on the pages. Laming’s reveal of expressions guides the audience through the chaotic scenes. It leads to a shocking half concluding act. The aftermath is a somber tone after what just transpired. It concludes with a shocking final full page which changes everything. Very strong work by the art team in this finale.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
Terror and trauma claim the innocence of hope in a suspenseful finale. Phillips’ writing takes readers into deep waters with the dangerous struggle to survive at any cost. Laming and Loughridge craft incredible visual that showcase the decent into dire territory. A chilling voyage into the complex areas of human nature & conflict.
