*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

STORY OVERVIEW:

D’orc is being chased by guards through the town of Boarsmere in nothing but his birthday suit. To hide from the guards, he dips into a local business. It just so happens this business is a fortune tellers’ business, and she wants to read his cards. D’orc has her prove that she is a real psychic by telling him what just happened to him, which she does with amazing accuracy. This proves she is psychic, so D’orc allows her to read his cards and chicken bones to tell him his past. As she reveals things about his past things take a turn when she gets to the final card, which reveals something that affects both of them.

WRITING:

Just when you think this series couldn’t possibly get funnier and more entertaining, it does. Brett Bean crafts another issue that makes you chuckle to yourself for most of the issue. The creative way he tells the story through a fortune teller seeing the past really stands out. It takes the absurdity of the situation and ups the ante which makes it that much more fun. The reveal at the end ties everything up and brings the story back to where it needs to be to move forward. Bean finds innovative ways to keep the story fun and fresh and this is why this series stands out amongst all the rest of the titles on the shelves.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue as always captures the nature of the story perfectly. Brett Bean brings this world to life, while making it silly and absurd. The cartoon style of the artwork makes the reader feel like they are watching a Saturday morning cartoon. Only this cartoon deals with adult humor and gratuitous violence. This really makes Bean’s art stand out and enhances the readers’ entertainment while reading the issue. The color pallet that Jean-François Beaulieu uses matches the aesthetic of the artwork perfectly and enhances that cartoon feel.
