STORY OVERVIEW:

We catch up with the boy nicknamed Kicking Boy, as he is a major football star. As he gets ready for a game he is attacked and his feet are cut off. The feet are sent to Ruthless Boy, who lets Laughing Boy know, to which he seems to be amused by the gesture. They ponder whether it could be Dogs**t, but Laughing Boy plays it off. Meanwhile, we get some flashbacks to show how Dogsh**t was trained by a monk in the ways of the knife and revenge. But despite the Monk’s suggestion of taking on the weaker boys first, Dogsh**t decides to take out Laughing Boy first. He is a crime boss, so he’s not an easy target. Can Dogsh**t take her revenge on him first, or will her revenge tour come to an end before it kicks off?

WRITING:

This issue continues the cruelty and depravity of the first issue, while mixing in the backstory on how our protagonist has been preparing for her revenge. Kyle Starks does an awesome job of showing us the preparations of Dogsh**t as she trains, and plans for the revenge she is unleashing. Starks matches that up well with the opening violence that she embarks on. Not only showing us the fights and aftermaths but also showing us what drives her and how she chooses to execute her plan. This book isn’t strictly violence and brutality, but also a psychological study in the art of revenge.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue is intensely graphic, immersing the reader in a deeply uncomfortable atmosphere that perfectly matches the story’s dark tone. Piotr Kowalski excels in conveying the horror of each situation, elevating the unsettling narrative with visuals that are truly shocking. His illustrations intensify the disturbing aspects of the story, making it clear that this book is not intended for the faint of heart or for younger readers.

Brad Simpson enhances Kowalski’s artwork through his deliberate color choices, which accentuate the despair and darkness at the core of the story. The colors contribute significantly to the overall impact, making the bleakness and intensity of the narrative stand out powerfully.

Final Thoughts:

Devil on my Shoulder #2 kicks the revenge tour off in a big way. The horrors of the violent revenge Dogsh**t has started, make this a great horror book. Well, the psychology behind the whole thing makes it a great thriller and crime book. It’s got a little something for everyone and its only issue two. Once again, this book is meant for mature readers and should be kept away from the younger and more squeamish readers. But with that being said, if you like horror and revenge, this is a must pick up at the LCS and a slam dunk addition to your Pull List.

FINAL GRADE: 10/10
