*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
The Story
Joe Kelly is takes things in an interesting direction with this issue as Peter continues his journey home. It’s interesting to see him out of his element and in space with an interesting cast of characters that want nothing more than to help him & get him home. However it does feel a little bit like he’s still on his own.
Eventually Peter does go to face Hellgate, and it goes exactly how you think it does. However that does have the trademark feel of a Spider-Man story the last decade or so. It does always seem like he has to get his butt kicked a few times before he can ultimately prevail.
The next few issues should be interesting to see, as it seems all points are leading to a convergence battle on Earth. It’s sure to be a knockdown drag out fight but one that should be awesome to see. Also Peter’s reactions to what’s happening on Earth should be wild to see.
The Artwork
Peppe Larraz, Marte Garcia & Marcio Menyz all do a fantastic job with the art in the issue. It feels different enough from what we’ve been seeing take place on Earth, but it still retains that familiarity you’re used to from the mainline Spider-Man comic. I really loved the color choices in the issue, as it really gave a bleak feel to things and really emphasized just how dire Peter must feel.
FINAL POINT: It’s a solid issue that has a solid story that sets up for a collision course on Earth in the next few issues. Together with artwork that gives it a unique look, this is an issue that’s sure to intrigue longtime readers.
Overall Grade: 8/10
