*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
In writing this series, you have to have someone who loves pro wrestling. Orlando clearly knows this roster and what makes their characters get over. The pairing of Mone and Luthor is perfect booking. Their dialogue fits magnificently. Why wouldn’t the ultimate heel in comics team with the belt collector? The writing shows their plans and how the others have to stop them. It’s as straight forward as it gets (and that’s not a bad thing). Readers get to sit back and enjoy the eclectic tag teams have another fall to fight with.
Some pairs just mesh better than others. The highlight of the book is Orange Cassidy and Harley Quinn. Their dialogue shows how opposite they are and this is why it works. Moxley and Gardner are too similar in personas. Nightwing and Ospreay work well enough but they don’t stand up next to this issue’s “odd couple”. Readers can also appreciate “Timeless” Toni Storm dialogue with Zatanna as well. The Batman/Darby union is serviceable due to its’ run-in.
Once the book gets to its’ main event, there was only one option to go with against Luthor. Readers will mark out for “God Of Professional Wrestling” Kenny Omega in this portion. Their part in a mixed tag match is as entertaining as one would think. It results in a definitive finish. The fallout ties up all loose ends much like a great pay per view card. It’s fun for what it is and every sicko and DC fan will have a smile by the end.
The art team comes ready to defend their title from the jump. A full page image of Mone and Luthor relishing in their win starts off the chapter. It doesn’t take long till the other pairing are brought into the chase. Each get a quick page to wrap up their original searches. Cassidy and Quinn’s reactions are vintage to their characters. One pairing does get more time than the rest in this portion.
Batman and Darby Allin get some quick action in against the Joker until a run-in happens. AEW Sickos will already figure out who this is. Others will see the full page image of a certain bat-wielding Icon grace the book. It leads into an awkward exchange between him and Batman. This disappears quick as all parties line up for the main event. A full page shot brings everyone together for a quick tornado match. Omega gets a near full image of his transformation. This moves into the championship bout. The finish comes via full page image. It’s fitting considering who’s involved. The final pages say farewell properly to the teams before one last group shot closes out this event on a high note.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Lex Luthor and Mercedes Mone’s plans run into a faction more dominant than any wrestling fans have ever seen in this closing chapter. Orlando’s writing hits the spots for each key player. Mercer and and the art team deliver on the main event bout. The world of comics and wrestling merge for another fun saga fans of both won’t want to miss.
