C.O.R.T.(Children Of The Round Table) #4 by Tom Taylor, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Rain Beredo & Wes Abbott (DC Comics)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Taylor leads off with a conversation between Marnie and special agents. Their banter is very business as it transitions the story into its’ new landscape. Camelot comes with its’ fair share of surprises and drama. Having the weapons reveal themselves gives more insight onto what the endgame is here. The writing also shows off some fun moments as it explains the difference between Football and Soccer. It serves as a solid break point before the drama begins to pick up.
Connor’s brooding is a sub-plot that has been growing for quite some time. Him being the only one without family in attendance only adds to the distance he’s building. The conversation with Fel cements them as the breakout characters of the series. It moves events to a deeper revelation by Merlin. Readers note at this point some key elements explaining what’s the issue with the weapons. The moment also sets up the close with a greater shock. Knowing what transpired, the final page hits with one huge revelation before bowing out. It’s a great parting shot before heading into the overall final stretch.

Di Nicuolo & Beredo give Marnie’s interrogation enough time to hit its’ points before heading to Camelot. The half page image bestows the magic of the new surroundings. This aura moves through the weaponry introductions. Seeing Merlin’s breakdown of “Soccer” is a fun point before the return of the drama. It elevates matters in the first training session. A fantastic full page image kickstarts this series of events. Pacing speeds up just enough to get the most from these panels.
Once events calm down, Connor’s internal thoughts come to the forefront. Beredo’s coloring adds so much to these panels. It fuels more events going to the Round Table. A startling image opens up more questions. Readers watch as Merlin unloads on what has happened here. The kids’ reactions will be something readers lock in for as the closing begins. Marnie’s latest inquisitor debuts with a near full page image. That person’s weapon makes a noteworthy debut as well. This takes readers into the final page. If stakes weren’t high before, there’s no doubt where they rank now.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
The new residents of Camelot waste no time in diving into training and a hidden legacy with this chapter. Taylor tosses in a few humorous jabs in-between the rising drama. Di Nicuolo & Beredo hit the key points in moving this magical tale into more dangerous territory. Don’t miss it!
