*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Doyle plays cat and mouse with the main characters here. The opening pages show a shock jock’s murder in a very disgusting way. This welcomes Clayface to California. For anyone questioning where he was on the side of good or evil, it is quickly remedied. Showing his own identity theft, Clayface begins his hunt, The story diverges to a waitress named Katie Park. Park becomes a focal point as events move onward.
Karlo’s approach is more frustrated than unhinged. His attempts for leads takes him into the belly of the beast. Winding up on set leaves a few paths to take. His monologue spins a dire picture. Readers witness his doppelganger not falling too far off the originals’ brutal ways. The writing ramps up on the horror theme for this sequence. It ties back to Katie’s influence on the sotry as well. Their dialogue teases friendship as Karlo tries comprehending this thief’s plans. It proves bittersweet as the close unfolds. Coming off high emotions, it makes the final act all that tragic, A chilling read never the less.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Galán & Delpeche open with the shock jock’s demise. Panels are haunting as the slow rollout of actions leads into a frightening spot. The view from LA teases more sinister actions on the way. Clayface’s interactions with Katie hide the truth while showing some growth of friendship. It makes a later interaction all more difficult as Katie is oblivious to what’s really happening.
Karlo’s invasion of the movie studios plays out very creepy. The bright full panel of tours conflicts with his underground movements. The full page shot shows the difference in set-up, This helps move events along on-set. Watching the fake Karlo hunt his latest victim is a frightening display. A chilling view from behind firmly stamps the terror taking place. Readers see the wear on Karlo’s face as he catches up with Katie later at the diner. Their talk carries weight by thei pained expressions. This gives way to a wilder ending with more questions than answers
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Karlo’s move to the west coast becomes more difficult than he imagined with this second chapter. Doyle amplifies the horror sense within the pages. Galán & Delpeche unlock more terror as the body count climbs higher. A deadly tale of fame’s high cost continues without remorse.
