Gordon has plenty of enemies. Allies have been few and far between. Sparrow seemed like a possible friend but turned out to be drugging her out of her mind. Last readers saw, Gordon got a small does of electricity running through her. Is it enough to shock the legal system in Gotham?

Tamaki gives some desperate help to Gordon as she tries to stay alive. Having Officer Myrna Shelton emerge proves vital from the start. Their talk indicates the drastic measures taken to get the drugs out of Gordon’s system. It leads into a quick origin for the newly minted ally. Readers see her good deed goes punished as she defies Vandal Savage’s reign.

The story swings fast to another prisoner’s new stat quo. City Councilwoman Vanessa Woods is a new target on Savage’s hit list. The mood is bleak as readers watch how she arrived to this point. A disruption at the jail sets off more hidden action. The writing stages events to keep events hidden until the very end. Once here, there is a sizable surprise waiting for readers. It is very impactful to Gordon’s life as a variable has been thrown her way with no easy answer why.

Nahuelpan & Bonvillain open with Barbara catching up with Myrna concerning the previous isuse’s ending. Their expressions come off with more pause as both are attempting to get a sense of the other. This moves into Myrna’s arresting moment. A solid two page spread sets up her case as a crime has been staged. When a drastic move is made, readers see Myrna pounce into action. Her good deed goes punished as the situation turns violent fast.

Events slow back down to more casual talk as the prison walls listen. Their walk through the prison shows an invested party eavesdropping. It stages a good build for later in the issue. As Woods’ story takes stage, the panels show the power of Savage’s rule. It makes for more ramifications as an event takes place inside the prison. Another two page spread shows a rough overview of what’s transpired. It sets the stage for a mysterious final act. The final page throws everything off axis as an event happens with much uncertainty behind it. How this plays out is anyone’s guess.

FINAL GRADE: 8

Barbara Gordon gets an ally but at what cost? Tamaki throws a major swerve into play with the ending of this chapter. Nahuelpan & Bonvillain showcase the wear and tear of this endeavor with solid art. A cloud of mystery is hovering over Barbara Gordon that no one will want to escape from.
