Captain America #8 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 8th issue of Captain America from Marvel Comics!
Things are a little tumultuous in Latveria to say the least. Victor Von Doom is dead, and now there’s a mad scramble to assume power in the vacuum left in his absence. On one side you have Captain America & his team, and on the other is none other than General Ross. So just how is this going to play out? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
Chip Zdarsky is writing what might be my favorite Captain America storyline of all time. I love the political intrigue with the story, and the scope of how far reaching the story is. We’re not just dealing with a simple Captain America story that affects him and some of his friends/teammates. No, we have a story that is bringing in multiple countries and the United Nations. This is going to have far reaching implications for a long time to come.
This issue is the 3rd part of the Dooms Shadow storyline, and the world is still dealing with the fallout of the death of Doctor Doom. The story has a couple of interesting points, one of which being what’s going on with General Ross and his present situation. He is incredibly invested in what’s going on in Latveria and making sure the United States comes out in control. Ross took it a lot further a lot sooner than I thought he would. Knowing Ross, this is sure to blow up in his face in spectacular fashion. Who knows though, I could be wrong!
Then you have Steve’s story, which was interesting and a lot more grounded than I expected. Given how far reaching the story is you would think that Steve is dealing with armies on a national scale and that isn’t the case. Steve goes on a very personal mission in this issue and it’s an incredibly powerful story. I loved the way it built up to the conclusion and set up for the next couple of issues as well. Captain America is coming, and I don’t think anyone is ready.
The Artwork
Jan Bazaldua & Romulo Fajardo Jr do a fantastic job with the art in this issue. I loved the way the issue is drawn between the different perspectives, because they all have a different feel to them while still looking the same. The action sequences in particular were great and some of my favorites.
Overall Grade: 9/10
The series is as can’t miss as it gets. Chip is delivering a generational story that cannot be missed. Together with artwork that will amaze you, this is a series you need to pick up ASAP!
