The Story

After the insanity that was the last issue, it’s hard to imagine the story getting any crazier in this one. However Chip Zdarsky proves me wrong because holy cow I did not see the ending of this issue coming at all. It’s action packed from start to finish, plus it’s filled with twists galore.

Chip Zdarsky continues to do an amazing job to make this feel like such a different take on a Captain America story that I can remember. Cap has ventured into Hell and has been fighting WITH Victor Von Doom against Mephisto AND Red Skull. Yet despite the bizarre circumstances it makes for an incredible story that despite the other major stories going on in the Marvel universe, stands on it’s own with how good it is.

Of course at the end of the last issue we saw Steve Rodgers make a deal with Mephisto, which was all sorts of shocking. Of course things don’t play out as they should (you’ve got Mephisto AND Doom in play after all) and things take a shocking turn that is going to have ramifications for the entire MCU. Of course I won’t spoil it here, you really need to see it for yourself. However I will say this, it’s on the same level as Hela becoming the Queen In Black. This development isn’t going to be good for anyone. It’s going to be a wild ride, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

The Artwork

Valerio Schiti & Romulo Fajardo Jr are in charge of the artwork for the issue and it’s truly incredible to look at as you’re reading the story. There is a lot going on visually and the creative team does an incredible job with those visuals that leave you truly stunned from start to finish. There are a couple of panels in particular (you’ll know them when you see them) that leave you sitting there in shock and awe at what it is you’re looking at. The story is shocking and the artwork does a great job elevating the shock value of that story.

Overall Grade: 9/10

A spectacular issue that is the one of the best issues in all of comics thus far this year. Chip Zdarsky brings you one of the best runs of the year, and really raises the stakes to new high’s for not just Captain America but the entire MCU. Together with artwork that is the best work the team has done so far, this really is an issue you absolutely don’t want to miss out on.
