Captain America #14 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 14th issue of Captain America from Marvel Comics!
Victor Von Doom is dead. And Steve Rodgers is fighting alongside him in Hell! So what happens when Rodgers situation gets even more precarious? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
I really enjoyed this story and how atypical it is for your usual Captain America story. When you think of heroes who might be in Hell dealing with otherworldly forces and the ghosts of enemies, I don’t think you would exactly put Cap very high on that list. Regardless, it’s a story that works incredibly well and leaves you wanting more by the end of the issue.
The story is not just a focus on Cap, but also puts an interesting focus on Doom and his past. It’s one that I found extremely interesting and would be interested in seeing maybe the past shown here visited in a future series. Of course things escalate very quickly because we’re dealing with Doom in Hell, so why wouldn’t they? Chip is able to weave together a story that raises the stakes and places Steve in some interesting positions that he isn’t often (if ever) seen in.
It all leads to what’s sure to be an explosive 15th issue with a clash that is as classic as it gets when it comes to Captain America. It’ll be interesting to see how this story plays out and what it will mean for the larger Marvel universe.
The Artwork
Ton Lima & Romulo Fajardo Jr are in charge of the artwork for the issue and it’s artwork that I really enjoyed. They managed to keep the look of Steve you’re used to from the comics, but everything else about it had such a non-standard look for what you’d think a Cap comic would look like. It really makes you take pause and really look at what’s going on in the panels and soak it all in.
Overall Grade: 8/10
The series’ fantastic storytelling continues with artwork that is sure to impress. Chip continues to impress with one of the most memorable Captain America stories.
