STORY OVERVIEW:

Akeldama and the Prisoner have a moment after taking out Mallory’s men, where they come to a weird understanding. The Prisoner invites Akeldama to follow him to the next planet when she is finished saying goodbye to her friends. He also tells her to stop calling him the Prisoner as his real name is Desmiox. Akeldama meets Desmiox on a primitive planet called Mucrom. On this planet there are a few races of Sapient beings, but no Earth men, except for the mission established by the church. Desmiox reveals he had a little help learning about this planet from a native inhabitant named Yara. When he introduces Akeldama to Yara, she realizes she looks just like her. This opens a lot more questions and things that need to be discovered and answered.

WRITING:

Talk about ramping up a story and revealing some big things, this issue really nails it. Benito Cereno not only reveals the name of the Prisoner but also reveals the origins of Akeldama. These are things that readers have been waiting for 10 issues to see! Cereno really pays them off and sets the table for what’s to come in the series. The backstory of the Mucromian’s and how the missionaries from the church betrayed them, shines a light on the motives of the church and powerful people of this universe. The message that Cereno has been weaving into this series becomes astoundingly obvious and more meaningful than ever.

ARTWORK:

A standout feature of the Blood & Thunder series is its remarkable visual artistry. E.J. Su consistently impresses with his intricate and inventive illustrations, crafting beautifully imagined worlds and introducing a diverse array of fascinating characters with every issue. His artwork remains a defining aspect of the series, and this installment continues that tradition as a new planet becomes an exciting canvas for his creative talents.

Alongside Su’s art, Msassyk enhances the experience with striking colors. The carefully selected palettes complement the artwork’s tone and style, guiding the reader’s attention from panel to panel and intensifying the story’s emotional depth.
