Russell takes lead on this story with a fresh look at the fatherly influence of the heroes. Seeing Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent try covertly escaping from a Father’s Day dinner leads to a very surprising chat between their father figures/ The writing shows the clashes in personalities quickly. Where Jonathan Kent is very grounded in his mid-west ways, Alfred is more focused in assessing the current situation. The writing allows the playful nature of Luthor’s scheme to take over while the pair trade off stories of their children.
Kent’s recollection of saying goodbye to Clark shows the range of emotions a parent goes through. Even as powerful as Superman is, there is no escaping the worry and fear of the unknown. This becomes a common bond with Alfred. His story varies ever so slightly as his inner turmoil exposes a rare side to the stoic patriarch of the Bat family. Russell balances the heavy weight with a comical look at the heroes’ bumbling troubles. It allows the Fighting fathers to step in and showcase their hidden talents. This provides the doorway for a clean resolution to the large problem in place. The ending cements the heartwarming moments with a great closing talk to part ways with. A great story in the vein of these historic missions.

Henry and Estouco zero in on the family bond to begin events. The meeting to the steakhouse is as awkward as the super-family time gets. Seeing the heroes try covering up a distress signal provides an opening to talk. The Batmobile’s transformation gets a stunning full page. It kickstarts the rescue attempt to a faltering end. Superman’s fate is gifted a full page as the heroes quickly learned they fell for the trap. Losing their spot gives Jonathan and Alfred time to compare their view of their sons legacies.
The flashback sequences find their mark as readers watch the painful moments transpire. Seeing the emotion of a concerned parent take hold makes a strong connection. This opens panels up to process how they cope with the dangers of being a hero. It transfers over to the new rescue attempt. Their car-ride to Luthor’s hideout covers a wide range of looks. It gives way to some surprising quick action. Readers won’t soon forget “South Paw Kent” and Alfred’s stealth moves to meet up with their sons. It leads to an excellent shot of the heroes escaping the trap via full page. The parting pages hone in on the feel-good points before bowing out gracefully. A great throwback feel with much substance behind it.
“Date Night” by Waid, Finch, Boutin, Fajardo Jr. & Wands sees Intergang trying to take out Lois Lane. The writing presents this through the eyes of Mr. Mxyzptlk. It gives a fun sense to the early days of Clark’s courtship of Lane. Readers watch as the one-upmanship at the amusement park plays off the hurt egos. It’s matched perfectly with the art. Seeing Bruce Wayne attempt to take down Superpig is worth the price of admission alone. The story concludes on an enjoyable note before wrapping everything up nicely.

Fathers DO know best as The World’s Finest have a Fathers Day they’ll never forget. Russell dives into the emotional weight carried while the heroes stumble to success. Henry andEstouco finesse through the drama for a very enjoyable story. Paired with the zaniness of Date Night” & fans have a great issue to look forward to.
