BATMAN/STATIC BEYOND #6 by Evan Narcisse, Miguel Mendonca & Wil Quintana, & Wes Abbott (DC Comics)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Narcisse juggles a few plot points while delivering a solid finale. The opening sequence deals with the looming armada storyline. It shows how the Earth is on the verge of attack. They are looking for an ultimate weapon. Shutdown’s exploits have garnered that much attention. Once events shift back in his favor, the writing keys in on his match-up with the title heroes. Readers watch as the attacks deliver on huge action. It results in a more surprising fashion to extend events to a much larger cast.
Readers watch the Justice League come through swinging for the fences. It gives the fight a grand feel as the heroes sort through the overwhelming odds. This gets sidetracked due to the armada’s new weapon. There is a nice set-up to present the additional challenge. This gives a little bit of space for the lead pair to combine stories into one flowing timeline. The writing gives the pair’s attack more weight. It leads to a turning point in the overall picture. From here, the issue is straight forward to the finish. There are some huge moments building into a steady parting place. It gives readers what they were expecting with an inkling for more hopefully down the road.

Mendonca & Quintana set a solid pace right from the opening pages. The introduction of the armada feels ominous with a large panel of the surrounding of Earth. This transitions to the face-ff with Shutdown and Static/Batman. There’s a great amount of action placed in these panels. An excellent “Bat Kick” spins into a direct volley of strikes. Static’s near full shot changes course of the fight. This leads into more timed action. A small, but impactful panel of Batman standing through the smoke jumps off the page. It helps move Shutdown into his next phase of the story. This also gets some help from friends.
An amazing two page spread sees The Justice League in action. It gives the premier team a huge spotlight as they battle. Readers watch as the counter punch sees Shutdown in way over his head. Knowing this factor, the lead pair enter the fight with a near full shot. This spills into more action shots, not only from space but back on Earth as well. It leads into a very balanced closing. Quintana’s coloring adds much energy into the final blows. It results into more calm images leading into one last final image. The closing panel puts a bow onto the gift this series was to fans.
FINAL GRADE: 8.6
Time is up for Batman and Static as Shutdown goes for one last shot in a very entertaining finale. Narcisse’s writing keys in on the pair’s desperate attempts to save the day . Mendonca & Quintana bring the action as their art steals the show. A futuristic classic that leaves fans anting more stories from the Beyond Universe.
