Avengers: Armageddon #4 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 4th issue of Avengers: Armageddon from Marvel Comics!
Marvel’s big summertime comic event is now here! Marvel has promised that things would not be the same after this event was over, and with as high as the stakes are it’s easy to see why. So just how more intense can things get? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
Just when I thought Chip Zdarsky couldn’t raise the stakes any further, he proved me wrong and raised them to new heights. Let’s not forget that in issue 3 it looked like World War 3 was starting and the heroes were splintering in a way we haven’t seen since since perhaps Civil War. This has all the hallmarks of a classic story and the tension only increases with this issue.
The main focus of this issue is the ongoing tensions throughout the world, and mainly the TEN nuclear missiles that Russia has fired towards the US that have the Avengers, Fantastic Four AND the X-Men jumping into the fray to stop them. From there the tension only rises to unexpected heights with a story that feels like it’s straight out of a movie.
If you wondered in the previous issue why the Russians were so buddy buddy with Red Hulk, don’t worry. You’re going to get your answer in this issue. I won’t spoil what happens but what I will say is HOLY CRAP. That was a twist I did not see coming and yeah…it’s clear to me know how the Avengers are going to change forever after this. There’s no way this plays out that you don’t see some sort of major change for the entire team and the world.
There’s also the matter of the ending and a major character development for someone. Again, I won’t spoil it but it’s going to be interesting to see where Marvel takes this. If done right it could lead to some interesting stories, but of course time will tell.
The Artwork
Delio Diaz, Frank Alpizar & Jesus Aburtov are in charge of the artwork for the issue and as good as the story has been the artwork has been just as amazing. There were several panels in this issue that made me sit back in amazement with what was being shown. The battle sequences are absolutely top notch, and some of the best you’ll read this week. This genuinely might be one of the best drawn issues I’ve read all year.
Overall Grade: 10/10
Avengers: Armageddon is one of the best stories going in all of comics right now. A story that delivers with every issue, together with artwork that will leave you in amazement make this a series, and an issue, you CANNOT afford to miss out on!
