The Amazing Spider-Man Annual (2026) #1 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing The Amazing Spider-Man Annual from Marvel Comics!
Peter Parker is in the thick of it in NYC, but this time he isn’t alone! He’s joined by Rapid, and together they’re going to take on a foe a multifacited attack! Let’s jump into it!
Credit: Marvel Comics // The Amazing Spider-Man Annual (2026) #1 by Saladin Ahmed (Writer), Federico Vincenti (Artist), Chris Sotomayor (Color Artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer), Joe Kelly (Writer, '“Deal With The Devils”), Roi Mercado (Artist, “Deal With The Devils”), Francesco Mobili & Marte Garcia (Cover) is a good issue that is fun to read.
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
The Story
Saladin Ahmed is writing the first story in the issue, and it’s a fun story that is a blast to read from start to finish. We get to see Peter teaming up with Rapid! For those who may not remember, Rapid was introduced in Giant-Size Amazing Spider-Man #1 back in May of 2025. Rapid is still learning the ropes of this hero business, but he’s got a great teacher in Peter.
Things quickly escalate when none other than Screwball appears via livestream in Times Square. What follows is all the usual antics you would expect from Screwball. The story is great because the shine we get to see on Rapid. Rapid is still a relatively new character and seeing a hero take their first steps and figure out the crazy life that is saving the world is always a fun read.
I really enjoyed watching Rapid work through his powers and overcome the obstacles that come with the early days of crime fighting. The story also felt like a classic Spider-Man story with how it was structured and how it was resolved. It really is a joy to read from start to finish.
Joe Kelly pens the other story in this issue, which is titled “Deal with the Devils”. This story is going to be very interesting to readers of the ongoing series Joe Kelly is doing, because it’s going to have major implications for Spider-Mans immediate future. It features a very familiar face that is going up against a droid of some sort for testing. All the meanwhile a “sales pitch” is being made. I’m not saying the story made my blood run cold, but man it does not mean good things for Peter Parker. He has a very difficult road ahead of him, and I cannot wait to see where it goes.
The Artwork
Federico Vincenti, Chris Sotomayor & Roi Mercado all do a fantastic job with the artwork in this issue. I really enjoyed the chaos Federico brought to the first story with the way the panels were drawn. Also I really liked the use of color, as it was incredibly vibrant and detailed. As for the second story, I really liked the way Roi was able to draw THAT character because it’s such a classic character and was drawn so impeccably.
FINAL POINT: It’s a solid issue that has a something for all readers. If you’re a casual reader, you’ll love the first one. However if you’re a regular reader of the series, you’ll love the second one because it offers a very interesting glimpse into what’s coming up in the series next. This is an annual you’re not going to want to miss!
Overall Grade: 8.5/10
