The Amazing Spider-Man #18 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 18th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man from Marvel Comics!

Peter Parker is missing! Despite that none other than Norman Osborne has stepped up to fill in the role of Spider-Man! It hasn’t been easy, but Norman is giving it his all. Despite that there’s a force moving behind the scenes working against him! So let’s jump into it!

Credit: Marvel Comics // The Amazing Spider-Man #18 by Joe Kelly (Writer), John Romita Jr (Penciler & Cover), Scott Hanna (Inker & Cover), Marcio Menyz (Color Artist & Cover), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is a solid issue that spins the webs of mystery more so than it solves them.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The Story

Joe Kelly is taking things in an interesting direction with the mainline Spider-Man series. Having Norman Osborne take up the mantle of Spider-Man is a choice I would not have guessed would happen in a million years. I still maintain that despite all this you can’t trust Norman, but I digress.

Seeing Norman have a heart to heart conversation about Peter with Jameson and all the trouble they’ve put them through was a moment I didn’t think I’d ever see. Given the popularity of the characters and some of the great portrayals we’ve gotten in recent years, it’s fun to see it play out.

The side plot involving Brian is intriguing, cause given what we see happen you know nothing good is going to come from that. However we’ll have to wait for next issue to see what happens with that. As for the end, it’s an interesting one and it should be compelling to see how it turns out.

The Artwork

John Romita Jr, Scott Hanna & Marcio Menyz are a great team that work incredibly well together. They give you a familiar feel to the comic if you’ve been reading the series in the last few years. I really like the way the draw & color the backgrounds, it has such a distinctive look & feel to it that is so great to look at.

FINAL POINT: It’s a solid issue that has a good story that sets up for an intriguing follow up, but it’s real impact is yet to be felt. And we’ll have to wait for issue #19 to possibly feel that impact.

Overall Grade: 7/10
