Patridge & Plascencia open with a strong two page action splash. It sets a good pace as the heroes go into battle. As the fight ends, the aftermath becomes more lighter as the outsiders reaction to young Kent take court. Readers see the clumsiness of Gold steal panels. An excellent full page breaks down an intro for all three heroes. It helps transition events to the Kent farm, which proves for anything but a normal experience.
Readers watch as Marvel and Kent’s talk captures the innocence of youth. It lessens up on the pressure of the situation. This is a welcomed point before a more serious tone takes over panels. Manhunter’s talk with Gold hits many points. A subtle half panel shows the horrors Gold endured during his Absolute time. Events shift to a “normal” breakfast as the talk centers around Clark’s arrival to Earth. Once Epoch returns, pacing speeds up the pages. This moves to a solid parting image. The full page teases more on the horizon which is always welcomed for a close.
FINAL GRADE: 8.3
Superboy gets some familiar friends stopping by as his time-bending tale continues. Waid nails all the key factors needed in this complex story. Patridge & Plascencia balance out the drama with great action on the pages. Where this story is leading to is anyone’s guess.
