ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #24 by Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, Jordie Bellaire, & Becca Carey (DC COMICS)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Thompson puts Diana in a more personal fight than readers have seen thus far. The preparation for confronting Minerva is difficult but effective. This becomes more vital after Deimos & Phobos confront Minerva. Their talk is frank but gets to the heart of the matter. It allows Minerva to take full advantage of her new form before conducting a visceral action.
Readers watcha s the side characters get in on the act, especially Steve Trevor. His discussion with Ferdinand is lighter than expected until a drastic act is made. It gives way to the main event of the chapter. Diana’s confrontation with Cheetah is brutal and filled with venomous lines. There’s no holding back on Minerva’s attack. The brutal onslaught continues onward right to the closing pages. Thompson’s writing never lets up on Minerva driving home the point of her new change. It leads into a surprising final page where expect major fallout to loom.

Sherman and Bellaire put on another epic display of art with this chapter. The opening full page bares witness to Diana preparing a spell. This moves through the Hieron speedily as events reset to Cheetah. A series of two page spread shows her set-up of the twin gods. Her monstrous design is chilling as the human elements twisted in gives such a horror sense to the new adversary.
The art gives some key points to Cale and Trevor’s stories. The latter gets a shocking full page look before pivoting to Diana’s confrontation. A series of magnificent two page spreads make this brawl a visual display that can’t be missed. The amount of detail put in these moments is remarkable , but a testament to the art team involved. This feeling carries into the final pages. Diana’s broken looks show Cheetah’s successful wins taking shape. It leads into a shocking last page where more questions are definitely raised. What an experience to witness!
FINAL GRADE: 9.5
