*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Snyder & Grayson take Selina Kyle on a deep journey of self for this chapter. The opening flashback sequence shows her guilt overriding her emotions. Watching Kyle own her responsibility of her actions puts more pressure on her dangerous lifestyle. One the story jumps to present, the writing recenters her path as she leads the Calicos into action. It’s a nice balance to Cain’s scheming with the imprisoned Holly Robinson.

Where the story finds a new gear is Cain’s inner monologue as she walks the streets. Her words carry serious weight as she prepares for the encounter with Kyle. Their delivery is cold and point blank. Readers watch as this bridges into the major conflict of all parties. Action flies fast as the stakes are raised. This moment allows Kyle to make herself vulnerable with her thoughts. It leads into a more chaotic move with reasonable consequences. This pivots into a startling flashback piece which readers will be heavily engaged with. The break in timelines moves to a steady closing point as Kyle’s mission becomes more frantic as the clock ticks away. A very solid look at the sorted past while it shapes the uncertain future.

Bengal and Niro open with a gritty look at Kyle’s guilt catching up on her soul. Panels are direct until the move to Blackgate penitentiary. Kyle’s eyes start giving away the bubbling anger before gears get switched. As the story moves to the present, the mood is very calm. Even as the Calicos start to get fired up, Kyle takes hold of scenes and resets the play. This helps to usher in the great battle fans have been waiting to see.

The art shows a somber approach to Cain as she walks through the city streets. It reflects the shadow status Cain attempts to achieve. This brings forth a excellent two page spread where the dueling timelines come into view as Cain springs her trap. The full page reaction kickstarts wild action as Kyle can’t resist the bait. Panels swiftly move as the attacks rage on. One more key flashback is added with a shocking half panel close. This builds from a stunning half panel of Cain’s back-up. Kyle responds with an explosive full image. The final panel sets a new pace as the events tease a darker approach on the horizon. Very solid work on the visuals.

FINAL GRADE: 8.7

Catwoman jumps into Cassandra Cain’s waiting trap as her past weighs heavy on her shoulders. Snyder and Grayson unlock more personal scars with the writing. Bengal and Niro bring a variety of looks to the pages. One thing is for certain, the world of Selina Kyle is anything but ordinary.
