FAVORITE MARVEL COMICS CHARACTERS: 616 DAY!
June 16th is always an important day to Marvel Comics fans.
The main Earth of the Marvel COMICS Universe is often referred to as “Earth 616”. It serves as the home to the characters created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and other legends. No matter where the multi-verse may take readers, there is no place like the 616.
“616 Day” or "Earth's Mightiest Day" has only been officially recognized since 2025. If you ask any die-hard fan, the day has been celebrated since it was nicknamed in 1983. This has only grown further with the explosion of the MCU movies & companion animation/live action shows.
At the end of the day, its’ all about the comics though……
So to celebrate this year’s 616 day at FLZ, the team was asked “Who is their favorite Marvel Comics character and why?” (All art credit: Marvel Comics)
SAMI: MYSTIQUE
Mystique…. Duh! lol
As a transgender individual, I really relate to Mystique's ability to shapeshift. It symbolizes a type of freedom and self-expression that really touches me. The thought of having the ability to show myself in any way I want and completely live out who I am is very uplifting and motivating.
As a character, her abilities, her self-assuredness, self-sufficiency, and not allowing others to set her limits are also qualities that I really look up to. She has an uncanny ability to walk the line and fill any role needed within a certain story.
It is these traits and themes of identity and self-discovery that make Mystique’s story so captivating and deeply meaningful to me.
JOEY: QUASAR
My favorite Marvel character is actually Spider Man, but that seemed really basic to me so I’m going with another favorite who does not get the love and that is Wendell Vaughn, QUASAR!
From a in universe reason, he was in SHIELD but not considered to be fit for field duty as he wasn’t a go getter but ended up getting the quantum bands as his attitude was perfect to use them!
He became a super hero and then protector of the universe and an Avenger!
In real life I absolutely love his solo series from Mark Gruenwald, as it was 100% deep dive Marvel continuity porn with long neglected characters getting their time to shine AND featuring the cosmic side of Marvel. All things I love so the character and series will always have a place in my heart.
PAD: CYCLOPS
My favorite character in Marvel comics would probably have to be Cyclops from the X-Men. It comes mainly from the animated series that started in 1992, and he was the first Marvel character I really latched on to.
There was just something so cool about how he could fire lasers out of his eyes. Plus being leader of the X-Men was a bonus in my eyes back then as well. To this day, despite all the ups and downs, he’s still my favorite Marvel character
JUAN: MOON KNIGHT
To celebrate 6/16 Day, I've chosen Moon Knight as the Marvel character I want to highlight because I resonate with him a lot. He's a hero who is often misunderstood, constantly struggling with whether he can define himself or if he's defined by his past, his trauma, and his connection to Khonshu. That conflict is a big part of what makes him such an interesting character to me.
What really draws me to Moon Knight, though, is how deeply connected his story is to Egyptian mythology. Ever since I was a kid, I've had a fascination with Egyptian history and mythology as a whole, so seeing a character whose entire mythos is built around those ideas immediately grabbed my attention.
When you combine that with a character who deals with mental health struggles while still being an absolute badass, it's easy to see why Moon Knight gets the spotlight from me today, and I couldn't pick Batman, lol.
STEW: JUBILEE
As anyone who has seen me in a video without a green screen background would guess, my favorite Marvel character is Jubilee! She has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and she was appearing in the X-books that I loved, as well as in Wolverine’s solo book at the time as his sidekick.
Starting with Wolverine #76, she was written out of the title, and I realized I thought the book dropped off dramatically without her in it. Since then, I have followed her adventures in Generation X, X-Men, Patsy Walker: Hellcat, the New Warriors, and everywhere else she has popped up.
Jubes is the best, and I feel she has had some fantastic development over the years! She has been powerless, a vampire, and a mother, and I have always enjoyed the ride.
KEN : SPIDER-MAN
Whenever I think of Marvel Comics, Spider-Man is the first character that always comes to mind.
Maybe it’s because he’s the ultimate underdog with his burden of “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”. Jumping into impossible fights ranging from The Hulk to Juggernaut and more other-worldly beings, Spidey never backs down.
He’s arguably the most grounded super-hero as well. How many times have readers seen him deal with relatable issues like his work or dealing with the common cold?
There’s something about the character that inspires fans each time. It doesn’t matter if it’s Peter Parker or Miles Morales. When you think Marvel, it all centers around Spider-Man when it comes to the 616.
These are just our favorites from the Marvel Comics Universe….but what about you?

Until next time, Thanks for reading and Happy 616 Day 2026!
