“SUPERGIRL” Trailer Reaction: Same Planet, Different Habits

Ever since “Superman” reignited the spark for movie goers, fans have been eager to see what’s next from DC Studios.

More importantly, they have been waiting to see when that cameo character was coming to theatres…and her dog too.

Kara Zor-El aka SUPERGIRL made her appearance in the conclusion of her cousin’s return to the big screen. Milly Alcock is playing this version of the Girl Of Steel. She made an immediate impact being the owner of the show-stealing Krypto. Fans knew there was a movie on the way as it was announced in January of 2023. With casting like Jason Momoa as LOBO and Craig Gillespie directing, seeing when Kara would be appearing next was keeping the fanbase patiently waiting.

Their wait for more information was finally over as the trailer for “Supergirl” finally dropped on December 11th, 2025. Here are the three takeaways from what was shown:

*** SPOILER TALK FROM THE TRAILER ***

1. Following an amazing story as source material – This movie is based on “SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW” by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, Mat Lopes & Clayton Cowles. There are many references to characters and scenes mixed in. If you haven’t read this story, do yourself a favor and check it out before the film drops. It is an instant classic & gives much depth through self discovery for one Kara Danvers. The trailer teases just enough without giving anything away.

2. Kara is DEFINITELY not like her cousin in character – From the opening moments of Blondie’s “Call Me” blaring, the mood is very different than Clark Kent’s world. Kara is shown to be hung over from hard partying. This will lead her into the situation she falls into for the story. Her dialogue has more bite than Clark’s with lines like “He sees the good in everyone…but I see the truth”. This won’ be an average “Superhero” tale. The more the trailer progresses, it is easily to tell how vastly different her character is going to be for pop culture fans. Comic fans will appreciate the attention to character more.

3. LOBO = Expanded Universe! There is a small cameo of Mamoa playing “The Main Man”. While brief, he looked very comic accurate. Injecting Lobo into the film represents the expanded universe Gunn has been building. This is the character Mamoa should have played from the offset. His Aquaman never reflected Arthur Curry. Mamoa made that version his own. Now stepping into this spotlight, it is perfect casting. Comic fans were ecstatic to see Guy Gardner and Mr. Terrific get the live action treatment. Now, that meter is shattered with one of DC’s most notorious figures crashing the party.

“SUPERGIRL” Teaser Trailer - DC STUDIOS/WBD

Overall, “Supergirl” shows a solid vision of its’ adaptation of a comic classic. Alcock hints at a very unfamiliar take that pop culture hasn’t seen. It offers enough of an idea to what is coming and that’s nothing but a huge win for comic and pop culture fans alike.

“Supergirl” debuts in theatres on June 26, 2026.
