The Nur have arrived to exterminate the Brood hive building in Louisiana.
Their choice of battleground is the school formal where the Outliers are trying to have a normal night out.
Well, as normal as Deathdream gets (but he has a date!). This isn’t gonna sit well with Rogue as her X-Men squad is ready to handle some business.

For anyone not enjoying this story, clearly you don’t like having some imaginative fun with the X-Men. Simone goes all in on the alien threat while orchestrating a coming of age moment for the young heroes. Readers watch as the seasoned vets take charge of the moment. Rogue and Nightcrawler make moves to disable the Nur. This leaves the Outliers on their own to handle the devilish Brood. The result is surprising for some.
The writing shows the team ready to face their fears. As this series has progressed, each member has shown tremendous growth. The writing allows them to tear into the action. It also camouflages Rogue’s offensive display while the team deals with Gambit’s current affliction. Simone has also given the young team a great wildcard in Mutina. Her dialogue is clever as she seems poised to take a larger role. Her teamwork gets the ball rolling on a fantastic close. It’s pure pop fun but honestly, that’s what makes this team click. The epilogue is a bittersweet point but well deserved. Excellent work here.

The art teams flourish at bringing the wild sequences to life with the aliens. Rogue’s dramatic entrance allows for Nightcrawler’s action sequence to pop off. It gets the readers fully invested before turning panels over to the Outliers. Their reactions pre-fight show the unity that’s been forged since their debut. It launches them into battle without hesitation.
Mutina’s panels are a great counter pace to the team action. The full page image of the alien attack form space it structured nicely to drive the action further. This leads into a fantastic turning point in the combat. Seeing a full page image of a “new threat” is a perfect way to conclude the battle. This leads to a more heartful close. Watching the team make a presentation to the young group is an excellent turning stage. The reactions are classic as it feels impactful. This leads to a sad departure panel but not without capitalizing on hope for the future.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
When the Nur try wiping out the Brood, they forgot what party they crashed! Simone’s writing balances the heartfelt drama with outright fun themes. The art centers in on the chaotic scene with great success. This has been such a refreshing change of pace story that reminds fans to push the creative boundaries on the stat quo X-tales.
