The Story
Following the events of Ultimate Incursion which concluded in October 2025, in which we saw Miles Morales travel to the new Ultimate universe, we saw Miles return with the Origin Boxes. They were original created by The Maker to help his designs for that universe, but they were eventually taken an repurposed by Iron Lad & Doom and gave powers back to the heroes of that universe.
This is a rare instance where I have NO CLUE or guess what’s going to happen in this series. I don’t even have any speculation! So I’m going into this whole thing with next to no expectations. With that said, I have to say this is a really good start and sets up for what’s sure to be a really interesting series.
The issue opens up in a very interesting place, and that’s The Negative Zone for 6160! It’s a foreboding start to the issue, and while it’s not crystal clear who it is we’re seeing it’s sure to play a bigger role in the upcoming issues. From there the issue then turns it’s full attention to Miles Morales & the origin boxes.
It’s a solid story that gets the ball rolling but it doesn’t really go for the home, and that’s okay. It’s about setting up for the long term. If you’re a fan of the current Ultimate Universe, you’re going to be interested to see just how this plays out. However if you’re casually interested, I would wait until it’s finished to see how it played out.
The Artwork
Stefano Casselli, Marte Garcia & David Curiel are in charge of the art for the issue and they do a really great job with the art in the issue. There’s an over arching sense of darkness permeating throughout the issue and the use of color does a really good job conveying that. I love the action sequences in the issue and the way they’re drawn is simply spectacular. Overall the artwork does a really great job and is some of the best you’ll see this week.
Overall Grade: 7/10
A solid start to the series that sets up for an interesting issue #2. Fans of the Ultimate universe are sure to be invested, and casual fans are sure to be interested. A good story together with fantastic artwork make this an issue you should definitely give a shot this week.
