It is the first issue of TOMB OF APOCALYPSE #1 by Ashley Allen, Domenico Carbone, Fernando Sifuentes & Joe Sabino (Marvel Comics) a new miniseries being released along their X-Men line.

It tells the story of two X-Men, Wolverine and Jubilee, being transported away from Haven House in Louisiana. They’re wind up in an ancient celestial tomb, where the ancient mutant god Apocalypse has sent them there for reasons unknown.
We don't know why he sent them there in this first issue. He was searching out the X-Men Gambit, a former horseman of his, but he finds Jubilee's energy signature instead. He accidentally transports these two mutants to his tomb.
Once there, Wolverine and Jubilee find themselves beset upon by HYDRA agents.
Will they get out of this tomb? What is Apocalypse's mission there?
We will find out as the series goes on, but let's talk about this first issue.
MORE STEW INSIGHT!
I really like the art on this one by Domenico Carbone. It's very reminiscent of Luciano Vecchio's work on the current Uncanny X-Men series. It's got that modern comic book style where there's a lot of kinetic energy, a lot of background detail, & some anime influence in the art. It's very well done. I definitely liked it.
You see some real brutality with Wolverine just unleashing on these HYDRA agents. It's a very well-drawn book, and I definitely appreciated that.
As for Ashley Allen's writing, this is taking place from Jubilee's point of view, at least in issue one.
We get to see her rationale for why she's being how she's being. She still sees herself as the kid X-Man. She still sees herself as the runaway mall rat. And she's trying to get past that even all these years later when in the face of Apocalypse.
I like the working with Jubilee, obviously. That's why I took this book to review for you, because I'm a big fan of hers. And I definitely like what they're doing with her. They reference in this book Jubilee and Apocalypse working together in Excalibur during the Krakoa era.
It definitely pays homage to the past while focusing on its story in the future. So I'm definitely keyed in to where this series is going.
FINAL GRADE: 8
I'm going to be buying the entire run of it and seeing if Jubilee and Wolverine can accomplish this mission and get out of Apocalypse's ancient celestial tomb. And I highly recommend that you do the same. It's a very entertaining book, very well drawn, and it definitely has a lot of mystery elements to it.
