*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Simone takes Jessica into a personal battle with a great debut chapter. A routine mission with the Scorched turns into anything but. While attempting a rescue, Jessica is flooded with overwhelming thoughts. This leads to her collapsing. The writing delves into heavy territory in reflecting her mind state. This causes Jessica to get some time away form the team. On her journey, trouble seems to find her. After dealing with some jerks, another problem shows up at her new doorstep.

Readers watch as a mysterious figure lays out a mission Jessica can’t say no to. the dialogue is chilling in aspects but direct. This leads Jessica back into business. Readers watch as she confronts kidnappers of a young child. Action is fast an unapologetic. It leads to a superb finish and equally shocking cliffhanger ending. Much like Jessica, readers won’t be ready for who appears at the end of this issue. Buckle in for a hell of a ride forthcoming!

Guara and Nugent go huge for the opening pages. From the full team shot to a gorgeous two page splash, no expense is cut form making a grand entrance. Once the battle takes place, readers can see the toll taken on Jessica. Her mannerism shift extremely. Once the battle has past, her escape from NYC is more calm but covers a wider range of emotions. This builds up to the stranger’s arrival at her doorstep.

The devilish grin he gives as the mission is proposed to Jessica never escapes panels. This forces She-Spawn into action. A strong half panel sees her crash into the cult’s headquarters. It is business as usual from here. Readers watch as she thrashes anyone in her way. Even a subtle face change conveys how this will not end well for her opposition. This builds up to the shocking last page very nicely. Once here, the final full page is a complete mic drop moment. It is a perfect ending point to a very impressive debut

FINAL GRADE: 9

Jessica Priest is caught up in a new mission she may not be ready for in an explosive debut issue. Simone’s writing takes readers on an internal journey before dropping a show-stopper ending! Guara and Nugent craft excellent images to compliment the strong story. Buckle in for one hell of a ride!
