Dowling & Dodgson keep up the tense situations right from the start. The smaller grids focus in on the bumbling yet business plans of Koch and Bull. A loud half panel brings Sarah into the mix for a save. Panels reflect the frantic scene with danger just a finger push away. It transitions to Raf’s time with ease to move things along. His interactions show the clueless response to events. It offsets the draama long enough for a larger foot print to be made elsewhere.
Gloria’s talk with the Minotaur feels grand as it’s presences gets a near full shot on the page. Otsmane-Elhaou’s lettering adds so much to these panels. A mesmerizing two page spread dives deeper into Gloria’s mind to expose truths. It sets up the push to a fiery conclusion. Readers watch as the fight is taken to Koch and Bull with thunderous speed. It leaves a strong full page image in its’ wake. This causes a radical response to move events into close. Once here, the panel tease a soft landing but one rocks everything. It leaves Gloria with one path to finish and a simple panel to wrap. Solid work.
FINAL GRADE: 8.4
Gloria’s first case comes to a defiant conclusion where all bets are off. Spurrier poses thought provoking moments throughout with the writing. Dowling & Dodgson expand the action with show stopping moments. Brace for impact with this arc conclusion.
