Hill gives Miles a very steady start to this new series. The interactions with Valentina are organic as two young people are trying to get through the difficulties of school. Readers also get a fast flashback to Miles doing what he does best. The reset allows for more time to develop with his new crush? The question mark being what happened with Tiana Toomes? It’s an interesting choice to start with a tease of a break-up. Just as normal life looks to get a win, Miles is called away for something more heroic.
The interaction with the Spier-family is brief but important. It establishes his focus going to solely Brooklyn as he pieces together his future. Once here, the story devotes more time to his friendship with Ganke. Readers get a needed injection of super heroics to take events into the closing rounds. A new villain arrives looking for Jeff Morales. The writing delivers on some great action while teasing a larger mystery at hand. This moves events into a flashback sequence that fills in some gaps. The chapter closes with a solid final page and more curiosity heading into Miles next phase.

Leon takes the majority of art for this chapter. The art begins with Miles and Valentina handling an experiment in class. His superhero life is brought up fast in an excellent full page image. From here, the panels lock in Miles’ social life. The panels show the blossoming relationship take hold until it’s interrupted by the family. Getting a quick view of the NYC skyline helps to pivot the story into a new space.
The new antagonist comes through with a violent intro. Panels show off his brutal pleasantries. This amplifies further with a full page image. Once the combat begins, Miles sets a fast moving pace with his actions. Readers watcha s the action is very fluid until a full stop point. Once here, the story goes into a new spot. De Landro handles Jeff’s flashback moments. The grittier style replicates Jeff’s unsavory plans. It establishes what is needed before snapping back to present. The final panel is a great send-off to what’s coming and the optimism behind winning.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
Miles Morales returns with some new changes and a growing mystery to handle in his new beginnings. Hill keeps events grounded while laying more foundation to build form. The art shines in giving Miles some innovative looks in debut round. Peter Parker isn’t the only one having a brand new day in the MCU! Check it out!
