MEDIEVAL #3 (COMIXOLOGY ORIGINALS)

Is royalty ready for Danny Landau?

One minute, Landau is watching the Yankees with Gina Rabinowitz. The next, he’s waking up from being hit by a ball in medieval times!

He’s adapted to his new surroundings with a style all his own. One thing has always stayed by his side: the thought of reuniting with Gina

His search has steered him in the right direction. Unfortunately for Landau, Gina has met someone new during their time apart. His name is King Arthur.

Any guesses how this meeting goes?

MEDIEVAL #3 by Neil Kleid & Alex Cormack (Comixology Originals) gives readers an unlikely meeting of the minds.

Let’s take a closer look at what unfolds now.

MEDIEVAL #2 by Neil Kleid & Alex Cormack (Comixology Originals)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Kleid starts with the showdown for Gina’s heart. The writing lets Danny loose with his anger leading the way. There is no question of his determination in this pages. It results in a peculiar intervention. Seeing the new direction Danny is poised to move in, his time with Gina becomes much more important.

Their dialogue is pouring with frustration and diminishing hope. Danny’s sadness comes right into focus. It gives way to a much larger obstacle. Readers watch as the trials of combat steer Danny’s plans into a lost position. With nothing else to lose, the writing puts one last chance in his hands. It helps complimenting the closing image. There’s another curve thrown in before bowing out. It adds a small dab of mystery into the true intentions of a desperate man.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Cormack’s opening page is traditional in set-up. The full page historic look at Excalibur begins another battle involving the legendary sword. In this instance, it faces off against the Bambino of Steel. Arthur and Danny’s brawl is loud and unapologetic in delivery. It is not a friendly fight as Danny is clawing to win. It comes to a head by a calmer voice of reason. Timing couldn’t be better with the high scenes of emotions brewing.

The full page presentation of Merlin explaining the trials makes a statement. It provides a transition to Danny and Gina. Panel lock in on Danny’s failing efforts to get back to yesterday. This moves events to the first trial. Readers see the actions and errors coming into focus. It results into an upgrade needed for survival. The closing page presents a near full image of round 2 starting. Seeing the image almost overshadows the final panel. Suffice to say, there is much to further unravel in this ever changing tale.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5

Facing off against King Arthur on his home turf might faze some, but not Danny Landau. Kleid reminds all of Camelot they’re not ready for this Bronx resident’s Tale. Cormack delves into the pent-up emotions that have fueled Danny since he woke in this new world. It’s never a dull moment watching this story head into late innings.
