*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
The Story
Al Ewing & Tom Waltz continue their spectacular run with another fantastic story that yet again leaves my jaw on the floor. The stakes in this issue continue to get raised with each subsequent story and it does not dissappoint.
First you had the confrontation between Knull & Hela, then it lead to Knull vs Thanos and now Knull is facing down none other than Eddie Brock (of Earth 62466) aka The Illuminated! If you’re not familiar with The Illuminated, he first debuted in Venom: Original Sin #1 and is a version of Eddie Brock that became a cosmic protector rather than what you’ve traditionally seen over the years.
The confrontation is everything you would expect it to be, and it delivers on multiple fronts. It also leads to a game changing moment for Knull. It’s a moment that I wasn’t completely surprised by, but seeing it actually play out did surprise me. I didn’t think they’d actually go through with it, but it should be incredibly interesting to see how this plays out.
Then there’s the matter involving the end of the issue, and oh boy did I really not see that coming. Calling this a wrinkle is underselling it by A LOT. This is a full blown speed bump in the road. Just how is it going to play out? Only time will tell, but you can be sure that it’ll be explosive.
The Artwork
Juanan Ramirez & Erick Arciniega continue to an stellar job with the artwork in this series. It’s routinely one of the best looking issues on the stands this week from start to finish. Each issue delivers jaw dropping artwork that does not disappoint and has several moments that are just visceral and stunning at the same time.
FINAL POINT: Al Ewing & Tom Waltz are penning one of the best series going at Marvel right now. If you want pulse pounding action, and surprises at every turn than this is a series you can’t miss!
