The Story

G.I. Joe crossing over and meeting Lara Croft is admittedly a pairing I didn’t think of at first, but the more I read the story being told by Kyle Higgins the more it makes sense to me. When you take two properties that do share some similarities it makes for some incredible storytelling.

Kyle’s writing style is perfectly fit for this story and it really shines in this issue. The way he’s able to set things up and the way it plays out across the issue is really enjoyable. The way he’s playing the story out really makes me wish we were seeing in in some sort of tv show or movie.

Kyle does a great job making the issue feel like another episode of the G.I. Joe cartoon and that’s even with Lara Croft being involved. He also does a great job building up the way the story is playing out and building the mystery and intrigue, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.

The Artwork

Elena Casagrande & Alex Guimarães are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they both continue to do a phenomenal job with it. You really get a sense of two franchises coming together in a really intriguing way. The artwork feels like a G.I. Joe story, but with a modern style to it. It mixes with the story in a really great way and that makes for some great action sequences that are really well drawn. The use of color was also expertly done and really did a great job setting the tone for issue.

Overall Grade: 7/10

A great entry to the series that is sure to leave fans wishing they had the next issue. A tremendous story from Kyle Higgins, together with artwork that is sure to amaze make this an issue you can’t miss out on!
