Fantastic Four #16 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 16th issue of Fantastic Four from Marvel Comics!

The Fantastic Four are trapped in a far off world and are struggling to get back home. So just what is on the horizon for them now? Let’s jump into it!

The Story

This issue was very interesting to read, as it didn’t feel like a typical Fantastic Four comic or even a Marvel comic. But that isn’t a bad thing at all. Things are of course building to the DNX event that’s going to involve both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and reading this issue makes me very intrigued to see where it’s going to go.

The story primarily focuses on the Fantastic Four blending into the society they’ve found themselves thrown into. There are certainly familiar hints for readers, and to see the family have to adapt as the issue goes on is one of the highlights of the issue. Overall though, the issue doesn’t really stand out from the rest of the pack this week. With such events as Armageddon & Queen In Black going on it’s hard to have everything exceed one another, and you would think that this issue would rise to the occasion with DNX starting very soon.

However though, the issue is fine. It’s nothing to really write home about, nor is it going to go down as one of the greatest issues ever.

The Artwork

Ramon Rosanas & Edgar Delgado are in charge of the artwork for this issue. They do a great job keeping the familiar look fans of the series will be familiar with, while also giving it a unique feel with the out of time nature of the story. I really enjoyed seeing the settings you get to see the Fantastic Four in for this issue. The artwork is honestly some of the most ambitious I’ve seen in a while.

Overall Grade: 7/10

As an issue, it’s fine. The story is good but doesn’t really leave you with any lasting impressions that will resonate going forward. The artwork however is spectacular and some of the best you’ll see from Marvel this week. However the artwork can only take the overall experience of the issue so far.
