WRITING:
This issue brings a close to the Captain Lane arc, well setting the road for what is to come in this next arc. Jimmy Palmiotti gives the readers a great emotional moment with Zyanya forgiving Tobias and showing that Tobias has found a sense of family. After that Palmiotti wastes no time giving us an introduction to the next demon who will try and test the Gunslinger. This sets the tone for what’s to come as well as build some tension for the present. One of my personal favorite things Palmiotti does in this issue is have Tobias go back and help Lucy with her delivery. It would’ve been easy to just write that side story off. But Palmiotti shows that it is an important piece to the story that is unfolding by returning to it and adding some really cool elements that will surely come into play as the series moves forward.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue is amazing and really brings out the beauty of this world. Jordi Armengol gives such great detail to the characters and their surroundings. He really brings the old west to life with the scenery work. Armengol’s design of the new demon hunting our heroes is also amazing and very creative. My personal favorite art detail is the emotions Armengol captures with the character interactions. This makes the scenes feel far more powerful. Luis NCT & Juan Alvarez Fuente’s colors really tie the artwork together and bring every panel to life. Side note: the wanted sign in the background with Jimmy Palmiotti on it made my day and was a really fun easter egg.
