The Story
If you’re a fan of political intrigue, secret missions or even the film Captain America: The Winter Solider than you’re sure to be a fan of this series and this issue! Just when you thought things can’t get any more tense in this series, the dial gets turned up a few notches.
This doesn’t feel like your run of the mill Captain America storyline and you can tell it’s building up to something big. Of course that something is Armageddon and it feels like the tension is already so tight you can cut it with a knife. You’ve got two sides fighting against each other for the future of Latveria, and all the while Cap and his team is caught in the middle.
The tension ultimately reaches a boiling point by the end of the issue and Captain America comes face to face with Salvation. The scene plays out tragically and sets up for what’s sure to be an explosive next issue, and it’s going to be interesting to see how much more tense things get. General Ross is not far away and you know he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Artwork
Ton Lima & Romulo Fajardo Jr do a fantastic job with the art in this issue. I loved the way the issue progressively gets darker as the issue goes on before eventually becoming extremely dark. The backgrounds were also some of the best you’ll see on the stands this week.
Overall Grade: 8/10
The series continues to get better and better with each issue. Chip Zdarsky is penning what might the best Captain America story in the last 10 years. Together with artwork that will amaze you, this is a series you need to pick up ASAP!
