STORY OVERVIEW:
As Cap, Bucky, Nick Fury, and their troops enter the Hydra base, they were not ready for what they found. There are dead Hydra and Nazi soldiers, or what’s left of them everywhere. As they go further, they discover some soldiers in what appears to be cocoons. This is where they find Dino, and he warns them about what is going on, before the chest burster kills him. However, the group doesn’t have long to deal with this as they are now surrounded by Xenomorphs, and the slaughter begins.
WRITING:
This issue is pretty gruesome and considering it is a Captain America story it shows the dedication to this crossover. Frank Tieri does an awesome job of building the suspense up and paying it off with a lot of brutality. The horror of the story really catches the reader off guard, as it is a Marvel Cap book at the end of the day. Staying true to both franchises in this crossover is what really makes this story work.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue is brutal, gory, and awesome. Stefano Raffaele captures the horror of the story perfectly. The acts of violence and the attention to detail of the aftermath of the slaughter is fantastic and disturbing. Neeraj Menon does a perfect job with the colors, which really makes the horror pop off the page.
Final Thoughts:
Alien vs Captain America #2 is a gory and scary ride that is so outside of a Captain America story that it’s refreshing. The Aliens’ addition really brings something unique to the story and overall vibe. This is a fantastic crossover that highlights both franchises impeccably. This is a must get at the LCS for any horror fans out there.
