*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Lemire constructs a very familiar feel to this latest Flash story. Wally’s nightmares spill into horror aspects. The writing unleashes some dark moments before interrupting it with a time displaced moment. How fitting for a Flash tale. In this case, Flash has come back to warn his younger self to stay off his rescue mission. The response is telegraphed but understandably so. This version of Wally has more impulsive responses than his DCU counterpart.
West’s new-found focus get a major assist from Linda Park. The writing shows her breakdown of Barry Allen and Sam Scudder. This opens up a few new avenues amongst the search for clues. The story gets detoured by The Rogues in their current stat quo. It provides some relief from the drama before getting a proposal they won’t be able to deny. From here, the story goes back to Wally’s latest run. Lemire throws more intrigue into play as S.T.A.R. Labs. This leads to a puzzling final page with more to decipher as Wally speeds into the problem.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Robles and Lucas kick off the nightmare sequence with a eerie sense. The two page splash raises the terror as Wally witnesses the carnage unleashed. His fear can’t be denied. The only time it beaks is when he sees himself form the future. The full page shot seems like a calvary arriving. How quickly it fades. Their interaction becomes a point of frustration. Panels show the upset nature take on both. Once events snap back to reality, the art runs a steady pace.
The full page reveal of Linda’s findings showcases some familiar names. It opens up more possibilities while causing Wally’s brashness to take hold. Readers get a change of pace with the Rogue’s adapting to the country life. There are plenty of awkward moments before someone gives them an offer they can’t refuse. Wally’s mission speeds into the final pages with more patience than originally planned. There are great panels that start piecing together clues to the overall scheme. The final page is a full shot with much to consider as this tale is only going further into the unknown.
FINAL POINT: 8
Wally’s search for answers leads him into uncharted territory as more clues come to light. Lemire slow plays the secrets of Barry Allen. Robles and Lucas throw various looks at Wally’s world with great success. Don’t blink cause you’re going to miss something special with this series!
