ABSOLUTE FLASH #11 (DC COMICS)

No matter the timeline, alternate dimensions chaos……it’s business as usual for The Flash!

When Wally West is pulled into a dimension Dr. Barry Allen was trying to enter, it leads to a dire situation. The same can be said at Fort Fox. A sinister entity is wrecking everything. He bears the last name of THAWNE! This can’t mean anything good for our Absolute Scarlet Speedster.

ABSOLUTE FLASH #11 by Jeff Lemire, Nick Robles, Adriano Lucas & Tom Napolitano strikes like lightning on its’ latest chapter.

Let’s take a closer look at what transpires now.

ABSOLUTE FLASH #11 by Jeff Lemire, Nick Robles, Adriano Lucas & Tom Napolitano (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Lemire takes readers on a trip to the wild side of science for this installment. Dr. Allen has unlocked a path to “Still Point”. This bears a very familiar resemblance to the Speed Force of DCU lore. Allen’s dialogue dabbles into the long scientific breakdown while West struggles to comprehend. It is a solid moment between both as this is a common Flash theme. One element that is such a great change is the Rogues. Having their involvement provides a great injection of super-heroics as the rescue of General West begins.

The writing shines with Captain Cold leading the charge. Pacing grows faster (no pun intended) when they make advances in looking for the General. Trickster’s double cross leads to some witty dialogue with the younger Thawne. It all comes to a head when all roads collide with the all-powerful Thawne. Readers watch as things go from bad to worse in an eye blink. Lemire stage this out well to maximize one’s failure to escape Thawne’s wrath. Readers watch as the closing pages sets the stage for an even larger showdown coming. A solid set-up chapter.

MORE ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE!

Robles and Lucas present the world of Still Point with many sci-fi influences. It provides a great two page splash to welcome all to its’ scarlet fury. The ghost versions of Allen and other fallen “scientists” captures the desolation of the new dimension. West’s reaction matches readers as the ever-evolving landscape makes a few notable turns. This concludes with a two page spread throwing doubt into the equation. The calm wonder of this place is a far cry from Fort Fox’s chaos.

A superb two page spread compliments its’ full image of Thawne’s fury. Even with Cold’s unit advancing, readers never shake the worry that lies ahead in the laboratory. Once the fight begins, panels get jumbled trying to balance out all the action. With a large cast involved, the art give a solid share to those involved. It all takes a back seat to the final page. The full image of a champion ready to fight cps off a very fast moving chapter when the gloves came off.

FINAL POINT: 8.4

A trip to the wild side leads to Wally West overcoming fear while all Hell was breaking loose on Earth. Lemire pushes the young Flash out of his comfort zone with the writing. Robles and Lucas keep panels moving with solid art, juggling the frantic pace. Great landing spot to hype up next chapter. Check it out!
