Snyder & Grayson make one thing very clear out the gate. This isn’t Absolute Batman 2.0. The opening showcase Selina in her new life in London. It doesn’t take long for trouble to come to her front door. The mod swings into action as she has to defend her home turf. Pacing is swift as the attacks start mounting. It leads into an explosive finish that opens up her back story. Once this takes over, readers are in for quite the surprise.
Seeing Selina in this manner teases more of her true nature. The survival instincts have led her to a new life. It is a strong transition form Gotham’s streets. The inner monologue nails how grit in handling pulling herself out of the lost streets of Gotham. Once back in London, events start slowly to combine timelines. A familiar visitor arrives at her doorstep. Their banter is quick but packed with emotional punches. This leads into a wild rescue chase. There are some very creative takes involved here that usher in the close. Another curve is thrown into play as Selina’s new conflict just got more complicated.

Bengal and Niro get events moving with a full shot of Selina confronting her assailant. This fires up a more chaotic scenario. A magnificent two page spread shows how quickly events go off the rails. It cultivates with an explosive full page. The aftermath starts juggling around different time eras. Once readers see what Selina has been truly up to, it shakes up the stat quo. The full page here shows Ms. Kyle has been very busy since leaving the streets of Gotham City.
The flashback moments show her struggles to overcome. It gives a deeper layer to her character as she has forged her own destiny. Her interaction with her visitor covers a few ranges of emotions. There’s pend up memories that start creeping out as Selina vents. It serves as a great transition point to the present chase. Panels get caught in the moment as Selina goes in pursuit. An extremely creative move happens involving her motorcycle. This pushes to a brief confrontation filled with striking. Readers watch as the final panel shakes everything up as the mystery is just getting started.

Selina Kyle’s world is upended by ghosts of the past in a thrilling debut chapter. Snyder and Grayson present a version of Kyle forged through harsh reality. Bengal and Niro bring the action with amazing art. The Absolute Universe has another monster hit on their hands with this one!
